More about us
We have all found that living life in the way of Jesus works. It gives us hope, love faith and a spring in our step. So if you are looking for purpose in life or even a reason to get up in the morning come in and journey with us. We are all far from perfect and we’ve found that God takes us as we are and not as we should be.
For many years we were a part of the Traditionalist Anglo Catholic wing of the Church of England. However, for the last few years we have been on a journey of modernisation and are trying to discover together what it means to be Christians living here in Mackworth.
We still retain one service every week at 09:45 which is our traditional service which is in a more modern Anglo Catholic style. This means we always have Holy Communion on a Sunday, because we believe that the special meal Jesus gave us should be central to our life together.
Twice a month on the first and third Sunday of the month we try to be a bit more “Mackworth as it were” and hold very informal services called Franky’s Café Church. These services are designed to be as inclusive as we can possibly make them. So everyone is welcome.
In fact at Franky’s café Church ….. We extend a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, widowed, straight, gay, transitioned, queer, confused, posh or skint. We especially welcome babies and excited toddlers. If you weren’t born in England you’re a welcome, you don’t have to be English to join the Church of England.
We welcome you whether you can sing like Pavarotti or just growl quietly to yourself. You’re welcome here if you’re ‘just browsing,’ just woken up or just got out of prison. We don’t care if you’re more Christian than the Archbishop of Canterbury, or haven’t been to church since Christmas ten years ago.
We extend a special welcome to those who are over 60 but not grown up yet, and to teenagers who are growing up too fast. We welcome those who are in recovery or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems, are down in the dumps or don’t like ‘organised religion.’ (We’re not that keen on it either, and we’re not very organised either!).
We offer a welcome to those who think the earth is flat, work too hard, don’t work, can’t spell, or are here because granny is visiting and wanted to come to St Francis’.
We welcome those who are inked, pierced, both or neither. We offer a special welcome to those who could
use a prayer right now, had religion shoved down their throat as kids or got lost on the ring road and wound
up here by mistake. We welcome pilgrims, tourists, seekers, doubters… and you!
Our church is under the patronage of St Francis a 12 th Century Italian Saint who wanted to do Christianity very differently. He chose a radical expression of the way of Jesus as he taught in Matthew chapters 5-7. And we think this is a pretty good way to be a Christian. So we’re on the side of the outsiders, the poor and the marginalised, we’ve decided to suspend judgement of people and instead invite them to walk in the way of Jesus. If that’s you, welcome….
Welcome to your Parish Church!
